College Football in Oklahoma is hot and cold in 2014

The football season is right around the corner with a biggie coming up this Saturday.  Oklahoma St is playing the defending champions in Jerry World.   Come on Cowboy fans, let's face the facts, you're going to start the season 0-1 but that doesn't mean the season is a wash.  In fact, fans are very optimistic that the season is going to end up better than expected...as in 8-4 success.  Oklahoma St. is in transition this year.  The lofty expectations are tempered a little bit after having some monster seasons the last few years.  Gundy's crew will take a step back this season but will be back strong next year.

Speaking of lofty expectations for this upcoming year.  Head over to Norman and it's Football Playoffs or bust.  All the talk about conference strength of schedule is finally over and the real games are about to start.  The Oklahoma Sooners have an undefeated season within it's reach in 2014.  The only tough game is Baylor on November 8th.  O yeah and the two rivalry games.  Who would have ever thought Texas would beat Oklahoma last year, so the Sooners better not sleep on the Red River Rivalry and the Bedlam Series this year if they expect to make it to the playoffs.  It's funny saying college football and playoffs in the same sentence isn't it?  Bye bye BCS!  The Sooners chances rest on the arm of Trevor Knight.  If he plays like he did vs Alabama last year, they will win the National Championship.  If he plays like he did before he was replaced by the Belldozer...hello Sun Bowl!  One thing's for sure...we'll be watching!

Then there is Tulsa.  New conference, same story.  Sorry Golden Hurricane fans but this year looks like a bust.

Oklahoma football is a great time of year for everyone in the state.  Expectations are always high and this year it's especially true in Norman.
